We are looking for a Mining Engineerwith excellent mine planning and design skills to design and schedule the underground mine, optimize the operations, and assist with short- and medium-term development and production planning.

This role is a great opportunity to develop and grow understanding of the underground mine operations, acquire project management skills and business improvement experience. Reporting to the Senior Engineer - Mining, you will:

  • Prepare plans and schedules to support the short- and medium-term planning horizons
  • Perform detailed design of mine development
  • Generate stope drilling and production plans
  • Assist with ventilation surveys and analysis
  • Identify improvement opportunities and drive them through implementation
  • Work a 8 days on, 6 days off roster (10hr per day)

What you'll bring

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Strong safety mentality and familiarity with safety systems
  • An undergraduate degree, preferably in mining engineering.
  • 3D design and drafting software experience (Deswik Suite, AutoCad, etc.)
  • A minimum of two (2) years of mining experience required, 3-4 years preferred.
  • Well-developed analytical skills and technical competencies
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to operate independently and in small multi-discipline teams
  • Ability to cross-train with the mining engineering grouprequired

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Practical experience in underground mining operations
  • Intermediate computer competency (Excel, Word, etc.)

Where you'll be working

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903, and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
