Job Description:

This position will primarily be for MOW Laborer and will perform general track maintenance and inspection to ensure FRA compliance.

MOW Laborer Specific Responsibilities to Include:

Perform tasks associated with track work including but not limited to, pulling and driving spikes, replacing ties, surfacing track, changing rail, bars, bolts, shoveling rock ballast and working with other track apparatus

Must be willing to learn and apply FRA Track Safety Standards, GCOR and RWP regulations and be able to perform maintenance in a timely manner

Must be willing to learn to operate in a safe and efficient manner, all equipment and tools associated with track maintenance.

Remove and replace ballast, operate large non-powered hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, cutters, and sledgehammers, and operate proper electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic hand tools such as drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, and grinders.

Maintain accurate records of time worked, track conditions encountered, and corrective action taken

Assist in working on train cars as needed

Other duties as assigned

MOW Laborer Qualifications, Skills or Certifications Required:

Three years prior work experience involving manual labor or mechanical work strongly preferred

One year track work experience strongly preferred

Must possess valid driver's license; CDL preferred

Must be able to perform duties that require heavy lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and 75 pounds on occasion

Knowledge of and skills in using hand tools, including wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, measuring tapes, etc. and skills in using power tools and hydraulic equipment, including portable grinders, rail saws, spike pullers, track wrench machines, power drills

Prefer experience reading and comprehending safety manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, test materials, drawings, schematics, and procedure manuals

Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position

Must be "alert and attentive" and aware of his/her surroundings

Position requires flexible work schedule and the need to work overtime on occasion

Must pass all Roadway Worker (RWP) Rules/Examinations

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

MOW Laborer must meet and maintain the following physical requirements:

Must meet and maintain color vision requirements as described in the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Regulations.

Must meet and maintain all hearing requirements as described in the FRA Regulations.

The physical nature of the work will vary from day to day based on operational needs; however, the job requires that the incumbent be able to perform the following non-exhaustive list: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, grasping, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. Employees in this position may work in cramped, confined, enclosed, or awkward places. Employees will walk long distances over uneven terrain. Heavy work requires occasional lifting, carrying, frequent pushing and pulling of up to or greater than 80 lbs. A wide range of motion is required for throwing ground and waist-level switches. Outdoor position requiring a tolerance to extreme heat, cold and wet conditions. Employees in this position must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. Job Title: MOW Worker --- $1,000 Signing Bonus

Location: Salt Lake City, UT

Full Time/Exempt Position subject to the provisions of the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board

* Signing Bonus:

This position is eligible for a $1,000 signing bonus. The bonus will be paid in two installments: (1) $500 will be paid in the selected candidate's first paycheck, and (2) $500 will be paid after the selected candidate completes his or her 90-day probationary period.
